The grade II listed building that houses the restaurant was designed by local architect Watson Fothergill in 1877 and was originally a tavern attached to the cattle market. The building has since been fully restored by proprietor Ted Dubowski with the help of local tradesmen to create a restaurant that celebrates its historical roots whilst exuding a modern and relaxing ambience that creates a laid back dining experience. Soft lighting and easy listening music in the background enhances the atmosphere even more and creates a peaceful haven for its guests to retreat to.

Head chef and joint owner Troy Lamb has created a modern British menu centred around local produce and endeavours to use as many local ingredients and suppliers as possible. In a unique twist, the menu gives the origin of the ingredients so you know exactly where your beef was raised and vegetables were grown. The dishes on the menu are freshly prepared, in-house, every day, as is the bread and the desserts. Must-try dishes include Scofton lamb rump with celeriac chips, onion puree and mint oil; fillet of sea bream with new potatoes, Scottish mussels with parsley, garlic and cream; and roast chicken breast with champ mash and wild mushrooms. Troy changes the menu daily depending on the availability of ingredients so you can guarantee that you will always be enjoying the very best British cuisine.
